Donald Trump Speaking at a Rally in Nevada |
Children with learning
disabilities are a tragedy that is all too common in the United States. According
to a paper written by two professors of Health Policy and Management at Korea
University “Around 8 percent of children in the United States have learning
disability.” This number might not seem that large to you but according to the
US Census Bureau, there were 72.5 million children in 2022. This means 5.8
million children in the United States are suffering from some type of learning
disability. Another way to put it is that 5.8 million Americans are receiving
improper education due to a disability. Our society needs to be highly educated
to vote and keep our country great, however, this will never happen if we
continue to focus on financial issues instead of social issues.
Children with learning disabilities face problems that
someone without a learning disability could not even fathom. The definition of
a learning disability is “a brain condition that makes it difficult to process
or understand information.” Due to this open definition, many different conditions are covered under the umbrella of a learning
disability. ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and APD are just some of the most common ones
among children today. These conditions can cause children to be unable to pay
attention or sit still, unable to read or struggle to process verbal sounds.
These issues severely affect children’s ability to learn and
become highly educated members of our society. We need to put a focus on these
kids that are struggling. They’re only kids and can’t advocate for themselves,
so it’s our job to advocate for them as they’re the future of our country.
The Republican Party constantly disregards all kinds of
social issues that are happening around our country. They are completely
inhumane and only care about money. This is having a detrimental effect on the
children of our country. We have over 5 million kids with learning disabilities
who are struggling to receive proper education. However, every election time
after time the republican party chooses to focus on financial issues over the
social ones that are really affecting the country. In fact, around half of
President-elect Donald J. Trump’s 20 Core Policies are all regarding something
financial. This shows that Republicans simply do not care about core social
issues in our country. This type of behavior of putting any amount of money
above these issues specifically struggling children is absolutely
disgusting and somebody who should not be running our country.
One of President-elect Donald J. Trump’s main campaign
points is to close the Department of Education. I bet you can guess the
reasoning behind it. If you guessed money then you would be correct. According
to USASPENDING.gov, which is an official website of the United States
government, the Department of Education received $238.04 billion in budgetary
resources for the 2024 fiscal year. This money would go somewhere else in the
federal budget if the Department of Education were closed. This agency helps
facilitate education across the United States. One that helps kids with
learning abilities in school. The Department of Education is responsible for
Section 504 which “prohibits discrimination based on disability in
programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance from the U.S.
Department of Education.” This is a good agency, and it is silly for someone
to want to close it down just to have access to some more money. But hey, silly
is what we have come to expect from the lunatic known as Donald Trump.
This type of action is nothing out of the ordinary when
it comes to Donald Trump. He is a disrespectful person, a felon, and a
businessman who only cares about money. There is no doubt he would be willing to
let protections for children with disabilities go out the window for some more
cash to work with during his presidency. However, we need to be different. We
need to put these kids first and focus on ensuring their education. We should
not be trying to tear down a system that’s in place to help people. It is time
to say no and protect our future.
